Die großen Aufnahmen

Mehr noch als bei anderen Großmeistern muß der Musikfreund auf historische Aufnahmen zurückgreifen, wenn es um das Werk Richard Wagners geht. Die Hochzeiten des Wagner-Gesangs sind lang schon vorbei. Giganten vom Schlage einer Kirsten Flagstad, eines Lauritz Melchior, die keine Mühe hatten, den Ansprüchen des Bayreuthers gerecht zu werden, ohne je ihre Stimmbänder überfordern zu müssen, sind Geschichte.

Umso wichtiger, daß es Livemitschnitte und einige, wenige Studioproduktionen dieser Künstler gibt, die ahnen lassen, daß man seit Jahrzehnten im sogenannten »schweren« Opern-Fach mit Ersatzvornahmen leben muß. Die Tatsache, daß die Klangqualität der alten Aufnahmen nicht eben berauschend, sondern häufig eher »verrauscht«, kann dem Vergnügen kaum Abbruch tun, Sänger zu hören, die ihren Partien wirklich gewachsen waren.
